Sam 2018 - Dublin's 4 in Row DVD
2015 v Kerry
As Dublin senior football ran out against Kerry in the All Ireland final at the magnificent Croke Park the tension was split between the 80,000 fans. It was going to be a tense, tactical and tough final between the two in-form squads of the year. When the final whistle sounded the 2014 champions were beaten and The Dubs once again paraded the Sam Maguire trophy ‘through streets broad & narrow’.
2016 v Mayo
All eyes were on an in-form and talented Mayo team to finally make history. At the end Dublin, managed by Pat Gavin, hung on (after a replay) by a single point. When Dubs captain Stephen Cluxton held the Sam Maguire Cup it was the first time that the defending champions had retained the trophy since 1997.
2017 v Mayo
This was a classic game that had everything – an early Dublin goal and a strong Mayo response. In the final few minutes of play the ‘boys in blue’ were in deep trouble. But in a rousing finale they scored four points, Mayo only one and Stephen Cluxton lifted Sam for the fourth time after one of the most skilful and dramatic finals in modern times.
2018 v Tyrone
Tyrone manager Mickey Harte is a proven winner and his well-organised team raced into a four point lead in the first fifteen minutes. But as the game progressed they were overhauled, and finally outgunned, by Jim Gavin’s men as the Dubs got their rhythm and scoring boots back on track. The Dub’s victory was their fourth consecutive All-Ireland title making them only the third county to win “four-in-a-row” - the others Wexford (1915–18) and Kerry (1929-32 & 1978–81). At the final whistle 11 players had also made history by becoming the first players from the capital to win six All-Ireland medals.
In 2019, will this brilliant Dublin team become the first ever in GAA history to win five-in-a-row?
